Canadian All-Star Benefit Single For Haiti
blog.muchmusic.com, February 19th, 2010 - A large group of prominent Canadian musicians has quietly come together to record a benefit song for Haiti. While details on all the artists involved in the single are unclear at this point, according to a report by the Globe and Mail, the song is a cover of “Wavin’ Flag” by K’naan.
Update: More details have emerged about the all-star Canadian benefit single for Haiti, which was recorded yesterday in Vancouver.
A representative for Fefe Dobson confirmed to MuchMusic that the singer was also at the studio session, and that Drake, Justin Bieber and Avril Lavigne also contributed parts to the song remotely.
CTV’s Olympic Morning showed footage early on Friday of a few artists entering The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver (which was founded by Bryan Adams) to work on the song: K’naan, Nikki Yanofsky, Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley, Jay Malinowski of Bedouin Soundclash, Metric members Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Jully Black, and Kardinal Offishall.
The song’s producer, Canadian Bob Ezrin (who has worked with 30 Seconds To Mars, Pink Floyd, KISS) was also quoted commenting on the song, saying, “K’Naan’s lyrics in Wavin’ Flag embody the pain, passion and determination of the Haitian people and lend the hope of a brighter future. The response from the artists has been sensational, and I am so proud that together we may help to make a difference.”
Reportedly, the song will benefit Free The Children, War Child Canada and World Vision.
According to Dobson’s rep, Nelly Furtado was invited to participate but was already booked at the 2010 Premios Lo Nuestro awards on Thursday night in Miami.
If history is any guide, this benefit cover would parallel the 1985 Canadian supergroup Northern Lights, which recorded the song “Tears Are Not Enough” for the original We Are The World album.
Famously, the “We Are The World” remake, “We Are The World 25 For Haiti,” recently debuted during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Avril Through The Looking Glass: Our girl announces the release of her latest sounds of wonder. Her next single is due out in Avril, and her new album in June!
Early this morning Ryan Seacrest called Avril for a phone interview on KISS-FM (See Audio Files to download/listen to interview.). She talks to him first about her guest-judge gig on 'American Idol,' which airs on FOX-TV tonight.
Avril reveals how the opportunity came about to write a song for the soundtrack to 'Alice In Wonderland.' She was actually on her way to work on the video for the song 'Alice' this very day. The song will premier on MySpace this Sunday January 31, and go to radio February 1.
Then Avril talks about her own album, for which she just finished the photo shoot. She say the songs on the album are very personal and influenced by recent goings on in her personal life. She is producing the CD with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Deryck Whibley. They are still best friends and are working well together.

Haiti
Hi Everyone,
I am saddened by the news of death and devastation coming out of Haiti. What a horrible tragedy. Haiti is just a few hundred miles from the US, and even before this catastrophe, most Haitians lived in extreme poverty. This small country has had to endure so much already… and now this. It is times like these where we should stand up, pay attention and give help where we can. As I have said before, even the smallest of actions have an impact. To all the aid workers on the ground – thank you. My heart goes out to all Haitians in their time of need.

Lavigne album delayed again, may not be out now till summer
- Published on 01.13.2010, 13:34 by thewaymouth, 1 replies

fox23news.com/entertainment, January 13 12:01 PM - Avril Lavigne's album has reportedly been delayed again, following her split from husband Deryck Whibley. The
pair separated last year after three years of marriage, with the singer
filing for divorce in September citing "irreconcilable differences." Lavigne's fourth studio album, which is being produced by the Sum 41
star, was delayed from its original November 2009 release date by two
months, but reports suggest it now won't be ready until the summer. The
former couple is attempting to complete the disc together but finds it
"terribly frustrating" finishing the production schedule, according to
Jam! Showbiz. A source tells the Web site "The first eight songs,
Avril and Deryck worked with a lot of love and it came easy. But
there's three or four more to do and they just ain't feeling it. It'll
be a terrific album if they can put this aside for a month or so and
concentrate on what matters - the music." ______________________________________________________ Avril Lavigne's Divorce From Deryck Whibley Affecting Her Album Release Dateallheadlinenews.com, Anne Lu - Celebrity News Service News Writer, Los Angeles, CA, January 12, 2009 - Avril Lavigne's divorce from
Deryck Whibley is affecting her professional life. The pop punk
singer's album, produced by her soon-to-be ex-husband, was supposed to
hit the market last November, but it looks like it would take months
before it gets finished. Lavigne,
25, separated from the Sum 41 musician, 29, in September, when her
tentatively titled acoustic album "Pink Crust" was already 75 percent
done. Things apparent got ugly in November when Whibley's
attorney insisted that Lavigne should pay for spousal support but she
is refused to do so. A source told the Toronto Sun that the first
eight songs in the album came out easily when the Ontario native couple
were still together, but now they are finding it "terribly frustrating"
to finish the last three or four songs. They are reportedly trying to compromise a production schedule to get the delayed album done in time for a mid-2010 release. Lavigne and Whibley married in July 2006 in California after dating for two years. |
